Branding is a term that
shows the quality of a product or service and makes it stick with people
because they want to experience it more. Household names are brands that have
been established in our minds and once they are mentioned we identify with them.
Names like Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, and Mother Theresa are all
examples of good brands that stick.
Personal branding is
about you. How you package yourself and how people perceive and experience you
is base on the brand you present to them. To be a good brand, three things must
stand out in you. One, what are people
saying about you? Two, what is God
saying about you? Three, what are
you saying to yourself?
What people say about
you will help you have a feel of how you have been presenting yourself to them.
Think of yourself as a product that gives satisfaction to people. If they don’t
enjoy the brand they will not like it. What God says about you will validate
your brand and most likely confirm what people say about you. And personal
appraisal of yourself will go a long way in presenting you as a good or bad
brand because you cannot be black and call yourself white.
Isaiah gives a good
example of personal branding in chapter 52:7 below:
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the
messenger bringing good news, Breaking the news that all's well, proclaiming good
times, announcing salvation, telling Zion, "Your God reigns!" (THE
MESSAGE).
Are you a brand that is
beautiful in charisma and always bringing good news? As a good personal brand
do you think you can say it is well to people’s situations? Can you announce to
people that good times are ahead and so they should keep hoping? Can you
liberate or salvage people out of the mess they got themselves into? And can
people see that your God reigns over the affairs you engage in?
I want you to know
again that what you say or think about yourself is the key that unlock the
brand you present to people. So, do a real assessment of all the mechanisms
that feed your spirit, soul and body and get real presenting the right stuff to
people. Don’t seek for feed backs that are hypocritical in nature but the ones
that are true and honest.
